Virtual Paintout (January 2012) Summit County, Colorado

Snowy day on Main Street, Breckenridge Colorado

This month we travel to Summit County, Colorado. Summit County has four of North America’s premier ski resorts; Breckenridge, Keystone, Arapaho Basin and Copper Mountain. I chose a rustic old building on Main Street to paint this month. Situated in the heart of Breckenridge, it is covered in snow and has an old fashion gas light pole out front, decorated for the season. With ski slopes in the background, it must be a snowy wonderland in the winter. Enjoy!

Virtual Paintout (December 2011) Eureka, California

Hose Co. #4

8" x 10" Oil on Canvas Board

Horse Drawn Fire Wagon – by C.R.Spicer

This month, Virtual Paintout traveled to Eureka, California and the surrounding region east.  This is a beautiful area of California that gives wonderful views of seaside, farms, and urban areas. I chose to paint this replica of the fire station that use to stand on this location. The original sturcture was built on April 4, 1894, as Columbia Hose Co. #4. They were called “Hose Companies” back then.  A mural of 3 white horses pulling an 19th century fire wagon dons the side of this structure. This must have been an exciting time to live in the Eureka area.

Virtual Paintout (November 2011) Arnes, France

Pharmacie Van Gogh

8" x 10" Oil on Canvas Board

This is the Virtual Paintout subject for November 2011. This month we traveled to Arles, France and the surrounding region. This area interests many artists due to the period of time Vincent van Gogh lived there. He produced some of his most iconic paintings while living in the “Yellow House”, with such subjects as wheat fields, sunflowers, bridges, people, buildings, streets, etc. The painting above is of the historic “Pharmacie Van Gogh”. I found the perspective of looking directly into the “V” shaped intersection very intriguing. Time is early morning and everyone is starting out on a new, bright sunny day. Hope you enjoy it too!

Virtual Paintout (October 2011) New Orleans, LA

6" x 8" Oil on Canvas Board

This is the Virtual Paintout subject for September. Location was Bourbon Street in New Orleans. The lighting on the Street View in Google Maps was at the crack of dawn, very washed out, but with long shadows. I took the liberty of opening the shutters, and painting the sign for the store so it could be read more easily. Join in the search of the world by participating in “The Virtural Paintout” at http://virtualpaintout.blogspot.com/ . This month we travel to the Mediterranean Island of Sardinia.
