Virtual Paintout…JULY-2014 (Greece)

July 2014 – near Korinthos, Greece
This month we travel to the country of Greece.
The scene is the temple of Apollo. It was built around the 7 c. B.C
and made by Trophonios and Agamedes. The temple is made out of Doric columns
made of porous stone and limestone. According to Greek Myth, the Temple of Delphi
was where the God Apollo slew the vicious Python.
Afterwards, the temple became dedicated to the God,
and Pythia, named for the Python that Apollo killed.
The temple went through an earthquake in 373 B.C.
and was rebuilt for the third time in 330 B.C.

This month we travel to the Primorsky Kray region of eastern Russia,
which includes the city of Vladivostok and rural farming areas.
The farms had no fencing and the cattle grazed freely.
People could be seen watching the herds from the roadsides
and occasionally you see someone on horse back driving the herds.

This month we travel to the country of “Slovenia”. I was searching rural areas and found the town of “Stjak”. It had many red tile roofed buildings and the main structure was this ancient Church. This month we travel to the Washington, D.C. I found this corner Pharmacy on 4th street in a Northeastern Washington, D.C. neighborhood. I thought it was interesting and lots of shadows. This month we travel to the Cape Cod, Massachusetts. After searching Google Maps I chose a small vine covered porch in Provincetown to paint. It must have been taken in summer, because all the flowers were in bloom. All the houses seemed to have lots of flowerbeds and the windows had flowerboxes. Lots of color!

December 2013 – Venice
This month we travel to the city of Venice. Google Maps took to the streets and canals with “street-view” to the inner city of Venice. No cars here, just gondolas and other boats. Each corner you turn is a possible painting. I chose a small restaurant with the view of a bridge crossing over the canal. No steps at the door of the restaurant, boats pull right up to the entrance and passengers get off. Guess you have to call a gondola when you want to leave.
